How cross-platform groups join
Cross-platform sessions use join codes, not friends lists — platform friends lists don't talk to each other. For the step-by-step, see how to join with a code.
Same-platform groups have a second option: host the walk, then everyone else opens Join Game and picks the host from the friends list.
Crossplay troubleshooting
If two platforms can't get into the same session, walk through this order:
- Same game version — a player on an older build can't match a current one. Everyone updates, then retry.
- Is the session still open? — if the host closed the walk, the code is dead. A new walk makes a new code.
- Right code? — codes are short and easy to misread. Have the host re-read it, or send it in text.
- Platform online rules — on PS5 a paid subscription is required for online play; without it the join-code screen will refuse to connect.
- Friends list vs. code — friends lists only see same-platform friends. If the name isn't showing, cross-platform groups must use the join code, not the friends list.
